Mikel Arteta on possibility of Thomas Partey featuring for Arsenal vs Man City
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was this morning drawn on whether or not the club’s fans could be treated to their first glimpse of Thomas Partey in competitive action this weekend.
City host Arsenal
The Gunners are set to return to action on Saturday evening, in their first outing on the back of the international break.
Arteta’s men face a trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City, a matchup which will of course see the Arsenal boss face off against former mentor Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal will head into proceedings on the back of a solid start to the campaign, having racked up 3 wins from the club’s first 4 Premier League fixtures.
Man City, on the other hand, are winless in their last two league outings, including a shock 5-2 defeat at home to Leicester.
The last time Arsenal and the Citizens went head-to-head, meanwhile, it was the former who emerged victorious, to book their spot in the final of last season’s FA Cup.

‘We will see…’
As such, ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester, Mikel Arteta will no doubt be quietly confident in the Gunners’ chances of securing a positive result.
And, ahead of the fast-approaching clash, the Spanish tactician this morning held his pre-match press conference.
Arteta was drawn on a whole host of topics, including whether or not Kieran Tierney, who recently came into close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case, will be available to feature:
‘We are still having some discussions with the authorities and hopefully we will know more this afternoon’, the Arsenal boss explained.
Perhaps most noteworthy from Arteta’s presser, though, was the latest on Thomas Partey.
Ghanaian midfielder Partey secured a deadline day move to the Emirates last week, with Arsenal’s fans no doubt desperate to catch the first glimpse of their big-money addition in the club’s colours.
Arteta, though, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest when it came to Partey’s potential involvement versus City, albeit whilst assuring that the former Atletico Madrid man is ‘very willing to start playing’:
Well he was here just yesterday, he is getting familiar with everything around the club. Today he will have his first training session, so everything has to come really quickly for him. We knew that before we signed him that he is fit, he is very willing to start playing and we will see how he goes in the next few days.’
